I just spent a great month working with our Basic Training Boot Camp winner, Steffanie Stecker. Throughout the month I was challenged by this bright, energetic entrepreneur who is busy building her business. She asked good (tough) questions; she expected a lot of of herself and her business, and that made me want to work even harder for her.
The cool thing about working with Steffanie was her openness to hearing and trying things that were not comfortable; things that really made her shift her perspective. Not only was she just starting out her practice, but she also had a good sense of how she would like to see it unfold in the years to come. A coaching client after my own heart — looking to succeed in the present as she builds a sustainable practice for the future.
Investing in coaching can seem like a big risk for some folks (especially for those just starting out). I asked Steffanie to share her thoughts about the experience and process with you so you can hear what it was like for her. Here’s what she had to say…
My thoughts about the boot camp:
I entered to win Deb’s Boot Camp because I knew that I could benefit from learning more about business since I was starting a practice. I am the type of person who loves to learn. I will try to take advantage of every opportunity I can to get more information and entering the contest seemed like a good way to do just that. Although I was excited that I won, I didn’t realize at the time exactly how helpful it would be. Deb talks about offering our clients value, giving them more than they expect. This philosophy is how she conducts her boot camp. As an example of this, at the beginning of the month my husband suggested I ask Deb to view and critique my website. I told him that I didn’t think I would ask because I didn’t think it was part of the deal. The next day I got an email from Deb with suggestions for my website. Without my asking she had gone to my website, read through it, and emailed me suggestions (the suggestions were incredibly helpful)! The videos and examples of forms were wonderful. I find myself frequently referring to them. She was readily available by email with quick and thorough responses to my questions. The phone conversations brought the entire experience to another level where after each conversation I feel as though I had made a paradigm shift in the way I viewed my practice and myself as a small business owner. Before going through the Boot Camp I don’t know that I would have paid the money to do it, now that I have gone through the Boot Camp I believe Deb offers incredible value and would recommend it to others just starting out in private practice.
Well, there you have it. I admit that I am blushing, but I’m so happy to get this feedback.
I’m a BIG FAN of Kevin McCarthy’s “On-Purpose” work (and highly recommend his book The On-Purpose Person – the best 3 bucks you’ll ever spend).
I believe my purpose is that “I Exist To Serve Others by Fostering Greatness”. This month I saw a lot of “greatness” unfold in Steffanie.
Hi Deb,
Just ordered “On Purpose,” to be delivered to my iPad. I’m excited to read it…thanks! Also…I have no doubt that your boot camp is worth every penny! ;o).
@Linda — I hope you get a lot out of the book Linda! It may help keep you on track you as we go through the Boot Camp!
Hi Deb,
Thank you for sharing the journey of Steph’s boot camp with the rest of us. I certainly enjoyed reading it.

@Jackie – I’m so glad it was helpful!
