Are you blindly waiting for your “prince”?

Here’s a gem that I think you should read, ponder, internalize, and act on ASAP…

The wishing/doing gap

It would be great to be picked, to win the random lottery, to have a dream come true.

But when we rely on a wish to get where we want to go, we often sacrifice the effort that might make it more likely that we get what we actually need. Waiting for the prince to show up is a waste of valuable time, and the waiting distracts us from and devalues the hard work we might be doing instead.

If you can influence the outcome, do the work.

If you can’t influence the outcome, ignore the possibility. It’s merely a distraction.

~Seth Godin

No matter where this hits you, I hope it hits you hard.  It’s a little tip that could make a big difference in your life — Right Now!

What’s that “prince” you’ve been waiting for?  5 more clients?  Cheap office space?  Some “extra” money to invest in your practice?  The courage to make the calls to potential referral sources?  The time to:  set up your website, write a blog, send a thank you note, create a new program, etc.?

Whatever it is, it likely won’t just show up at your front door.  Remember:

“If you can influence the outcome, do the work.

If you can’t influence the outcome, ignore the possibility. It’s merely a distraction.”

Do the work.  Make the time.  Set your priorities and stay on purpose.

I am at the very beginning stages of my private
Practice . I’m still applying to panels and settling
In an office. I’d love to be able to meet with someone in person
To help guide me as I am confused and losing motivation.
    Thanks

@Christine — Don’t give up; you’ve come so far! I know that it can feel very lonely — I’ve been there, on and off over the years. But, you are not alone. Stay connected to us at the Influential Therapist. Get to know your colleagues in private practice (maybe you can invite them to a peer supervision group each month). I’d be happy to help you through this tough time. I’m not sure if you are nearby, but even if you are not we can get together over SKYPE for coaching sessions. Let’s get you over this “hump”! 🙂
